Where the numbers come from and how we calculate them
Figures are end-of-session for each market and are collected automatically from public market data sources three times a day. Gold in pounds is calculated from the global price and the exchange rate. The one-month gold range is statistical, from the last year's volatility (about 80% probability), and is not a forecast of direction. Top gainers and losers include liquid stocks only.
Frequently asked questions
How is the 21-karat gold price per gram in Egypt calculated here?
We take the global gold price per ounce in US dollars, multiply it by the US dollar to Egyptian pound rate, and divide by 31.1035 grams per troy ounce. That gives 24 karat per gram; 21 karat is 21/24 of it and 18 karat is 18/24. The gold pound (genih dahab) is 8 grams of 21 karat.
Why is the jeweller's price different from the price on this page?
This page shows the global price converted to Egyptian pounds, without workmanship (masna'eya), dealer margin, or local supply and demand. Shop prices in Egypt are usually higher and change during the day.
When are the numbers updated?
Automatically three times a day: after the Egyptian and Gulf markets close, after the European markets close, and late in the evening for gold and the dollar. The time of the last update is shown at the top of the page.
What does "market mood" mean?
A simple reading of each index against its own 50-day and 200-day moving averages: above both with the 50-day above the 200-day is positive, below both with the 50-day below the 200-day is negative, and anything in between leans one way. It describes the trend so far; it is not a forecast.
What are the trading hours of the Egyptian, Saudi, UAE and European exchanges?
The Egyptian Exchange trades Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 to 14:30 Cairo time. The Saudi Exchange trades Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 to 15:00 Riyadh time. Dubai and Abu Dhabi trade Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 15:00 UAE time. Paris and Frankfurt trade Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30 CET, and London 08:00 to 16:30 UK time.
